About AreaConverter.in
Building a trustworthy, fast, zero-bloat land and area measurement calculator for property owners, farmers, surveyors, and developers worldwide.
Our Mission
AreaConverter.in was established to solve a widespread, costly problem in global real estate and agricultural administration: inconsistent, opaque, and erroneous area conversions.
While international scientific engineering universally uses the metric square meter, real-world land transactions operate across a complex mosaic of historical customary units. In the United States and Canada, farmland is partitioned into Public Land Survey System (PLSS) sections and quarter-sections. In the United Kingdom and Australia, Torrens Title metric registers live alongside rural acres and roods. Across South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal), ancestral deeds and digital revenue portals (like Bhulekh, Jamabandi, PLRA, and Malpot) measure land in Bigha, Gaj, Biswa, Katha, Guntha, Cent, Kanal, Marla, and Ropani.
Most online conversion calculators provide oversimplified, single-value formulas that ignore critical regional definitions — such as assuming that a "Bigha" has the same size in Uttar Pradesh (27,225 sq ft) as it does in West Bengal (14,400 sq ft) or the Nepalese Terai (72,900 sq ft). Such errors can lead to massive financial miscalculations during land purchase negotiations. AreaConverter was engineered to eliminate this ambiguity.
Our Technical & Mathematical Principles
- Authoritative Standards Alignment: Standard international and metric conversion factors are based on established measurement definitions and are kept internally consistent across the calculator.
- State & Provincial Revenue Grounding: Regional land unit definitions are grounded in published regional land-measurement conventions and, where applicable, local revenue or survey documentation (such as the UP Revenue Code, Punjab Land Revenue Act, Bengal Tenancy Act, and Survey Department of Nepal regulations).
- Zero External API Dependence: All conversion calculations run in your browser using client-side JavaScript. The site does not need a remote conversion API to calculate the result.
- Zero Data Tracking & Privacy First: We do not track your input amounts, property valuations, or location. Your measurements remain entirely private on your device.
Limitations of Regional Land Units
Traditional agrarian land measures originated from physical survey chains (Jaribs or Gunter's chains) and human strides (Karams) centuries ago. Regional authorities may use documented conventions for revenue or survey purposes, while local customs and private layouts can still use different values.
AreaConverter.in is provided strictly as an educational and informational calculation tool. While we make reasonable efforts to keep the reference factors accurate, the calculator does not constitute legal conveyancing advice, certified cadastral boundaries, or formal land surveying. Always consult a licensed land surveyor, chartered surveyor (RICS), or your local government land registry before signing property sale deeds or executing financial contracts.
