How Bigha to Gaj Conversion Works
Bigha and Gaj are not universal land units across India. The correct Bigha-to-Gaj result depends on the regional convention used for the property. This page therefore requires you to select a region instead of silently assuming a single value.
For any selected region:
Gaj = Bigha × (selected regional Bigha area in square feet ÷ 9)
Because 1 square yard (Gaj in this usage) = 9 square feet.
Examples
Using the reference convention selected in the calculator, if one Bigha is defined as 27,225 sq ft, it equals 3,025 Gaj. If the selected convention defines one Bigha as 21,780 sq ft, the result is 2,420 Gaj. These examples show why region selection matters.
Do not use one Bigha value everywhere
A Bigha can vary by state, district and local practice. Private agreements can also use customary values that differ from the convention used in a particular land record. For a purchase, sale, inheritance or registration decision, use the definition shown on the relevant document and verify it with the local authority or survey professional.
